As with many of the great
inventions, the use of Molecular Impulse
Response (MIR) technology to enhance seeds was a chance discovery by its inventor, W.C.
Levengood. What is makes this breakthrough so exciting is that MIR
is performed during the normal processing of the seed and does
not involve the use of chemicals or moisture. The seed is actually
stimulated to produce beneficial antioxidants that assist the seed in
tolerating environmental stresses.
MIR technology is being marketed under
the registered trademark Stress-Guard™.
The nature of MIR technology lends
itself well to mass production. Pro Seed Technologies, Inc.
(PST), the owner of the technology and patent rights, is
seeking to work with seed companies to treat seed on which
they can conduct their own field trials in the 2001 season.
We intend to license the MIR process itself on a royalty
arrangement to a few select accounts. PST would license the
patent and technical expertise and assist the seed company in
procuring and setting up the equipment to treat the seeds.
Licensees treat the seeds themselves and pay PST a percentage
royalty based on dollar volume of sales of treated seed. PST
will continue to conduct research to further refine the
process, and share such data with licensees. Two newly
developed areas of opportunity include treatment of unsold
soybeans so that they can be sold the following year instead
of dumped, which is the current practice due to poor storage
life. The second recent development includes offering a new,
non-genetic technology to seed companies at a time when their
primary modern technology, genetic engineering, is rapidly
falling out of favor with consumers, grain wholesalers, food
companies, and farmers.
